In 2008, I combined my love of books with my love of parties. The idea was simple... our family would choose and read a great book. I would invite others to read the same book. I would collect $5 from each participant, plan games, contests, decorations, food and prizes all focused on the theme of the book! The money given by each participant would allow an ample budget for loads of book club party fun! The parties have been wildly successful. As a homeschool mom, I'm proud to say that we learn a little something, too!

Read more here about me, my family and my Book Club Parties. Discuss with me upcoming books and parties, make book suggestions, discuss other books I've read or books you're reading. Also, hopefully (sometime soon) get complete BOOK CLUB PARTY INSTRUCTIONS for all the book club parties I've thrown since 2008!

My Bonny Light Horseman

Anyone out there who has never read the adventures of "Bloody Jack" a.k.a. Jacky Faber is really missing out. Anyone out there who has never listened to the above is REALLY MISSING OUT. The Bloody Jack series is now 8 books by a wonderful author, L.A. Meyer. A librarian friend (Mrs. Hannah Owen) suggested it years ago to Kaylie, and we fell in love. The first story begins describing the death of the family of the protagonist (Mary Faber) and her entrance into a gang at age seven. The action starts with Mary, struggling to survive on the streets of London with the other orphaned children, led by a clever adolescent named Rooster Charlie. Mary learns to love Rooster as a brother and as a leader. The gang's life is rough as they try to survive each day on 18th century London streets. But then Charlie is killed and Mary, now eleven, ends up taking his clothes and the name "Jack" to hide her identity as a girl. She quickly finds a position as a ship's boy. Things really get good then, and Mary (Jacky) is soon given the nickname, Bloody Jack. Wouldn't you like to know why? I'm on book 6, MY BONNIE LIGHT HORSEMAN, and Jacky is sixteen now. Like I said, I'm listening to it. It's so much better this way. They are all narrated by Katherine Kellgren, who I must say is amazing!!!
